Roberta Rampazzo's Innovative Marble Coffee Table

Winner of A' Furniture Design Award 2022: A New Perspective on Marble

Marble, a natural stone, is often used in architecture and design for wall or floor coverings. However, Rampazzo sought to break this norm and bring a fresh perspective to the use of marble. She was inspired by nature and wanted to incorporate an emotional element into her design. The result is a coffee table that breaks the coldness of marble and invites the user to fill a gap with something special, such as books, flowers, or a personal object.

The table's design is modern and minimalist, yet it doesn't leave behind the emotional side that Rampazzo always applies to her products. The table also plays with nature, further enhancing its unique properties. The marble plaques and the optional acrylic vase were cut at a forty-five-degree angle and glued for non-division marks, minimizing the production process.

With dimensions of 1200 mm x 1200 mm x 350 mm or 600 mm x 600 mm x 600 mm, the table fits perfectly in any modern living space. The designer's notes reveal that the marble was cut at an angle for better finishing and glued. The project started in January 2022 in Sao Paulo and was completed by March 2022.

Rampazzo's research focused on the best way to place the optional vase for flowers and the best material to use. The table was designed to show marble in different aspects, such as not as a cold material and not the usual use. She added emotional and natural elements to the project, breaking the cold aspect of marble and inviting the user to fill the gap with what is most important to them.

This innovative design has earned Rampazzo the Bronze A' Furniture Design Award in 2022. The award is bestowed upon outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. Esteemed for incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology, they exhibit strong technical and creative skills and contribute to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
